A high-powered multi-camera
vision system

Industrial Vision

Vision systems are ideal for improving quality control in ways that other automated quality control systems cannot.

Procontrol Systems has experience using a new generation of vision systems that are faster, more powerful, more reliable and more cost effective. Camera systems from Cognex and Dalsa represent the two best vision manufacturers in the world, and between them we always find an answer.

See below for a video demonstration!

Vision solutions are available in many different variations; from basic inspection requirements using a standalone greyscale camera to high-powered multiple camera inspections. Multiple tasks can be performed on the same hardware to accommodate different products.

Listed below are a sample of the functions that a vision system can complete:

Part sorting and rejection

The ability of a vision system to reject incorrectly oriented parts on a feeder is superior to mechanical means and can act much faster, even faster than the human eye. See the video HERE demonstrating this (from one of our projects). The video shows parts hurtling down the feeder which are oriented one of two ways. The centre hole is a figure 8 shape and the vision system quickly identifies if the part is oriented wrongly and rejects it.

Product Identification and Analysis

Presence/absence, locating, counting and feature verification of products are elemental to a vision system. For example, vials are packaged by the box and the vision system ensures the correct amount is present.

Measurement

Vision systems can measure items and check tolerances very accurately. Measurement can include linear, angular, between lines, between circle centres, areas and to a datum. Typically a given vision system can repeatedly measure down to 1/4 of a pixel which can translate to less than 0.05mm!

Colour Monitoring and Detection

Using a colour camera enables the visual inspection to take on a new dimension. Variances in a particular colour can be detected, for example checking the ripeness of fruit or the mix of paint before tinning. This further ensures that your product leaves in the way it should.

1D and 2D Barcodes

No problem for a vision system at all—with support for all types of barcodes and the ability to read 1D and 2D barcodes, a camera can replace separate barcode scanners. This provides a means to track a particular product the entire way from start to finish.

OCR

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) gives the ability for the camera to read text. This means that text printed on your product can be verified before it is sent out, eliminating the possibility of incorrect labelling.
